Getting started

Welcome to pounced.org!

When you first create an account on pounced a default profile is created for you, and a random password is set for you.

The first thing you'll want to do is change your password. You can do this by clicking on the 'Profile' link on the left hand side of any page. Then click on the link that says '(change password)'.

After you have changed your password, the next then you should do is edit your profile. You can get to your profile by clicking the 'Profile' link on the left hand side of any page.

Editing your profile

In your profile you may want to set some key pieces of information:

  • Your orientation
  • Your location
  • Your contact information / im ids.
  • Your alias (the other furry nickname you go by)
  • Your furcode
You can also decide if you want to make your profile public, by making your profile public users will be able to see some very basic information about you, regardless of wither you have an ad or not.

Your contact information(IM Ids) are used to display to other users in your ad. We will only display your contact information to registered users.

It is important to set your location, we will use your location to determine where other users are in relation to you, and to determine where your ad is located.

What if we can't find your location? -You should try to enter some other cities near you or perhaps try a neighbouring zipcode.

Editing your personals ad

Ok, now we are cooking!

Now that you have edited your profile, and are ready to create your personals ad.

Options

Enable this ad. - This option enables or disables your advertisement. Your ad must have this set for anyone to see your advertisement.

Make this ad visible to anonymous users. - This option is used to figure out if users who are anonymous or not logged in to the site can see your advertisement. By setting this option people who are not registered on the site can see your ad.

Allow registered users to see my name. - This option will cause your user name and alias to show up in your advertisement.

Allow registered users to see my email address. - This option will cause your email address to show up in your advertisement. If you want other users to see your email address you should use this option instead of placing your email address in your advertisement. If you place your email address in your advertisement, and your advertisement is visible to anonymous users then it may be picked up by spammers.

Allow registered users to see my messenger addresses. - This option will cause your messenger or IM addresses to show up in your advertisement. If you want other users to see your messenger address you should use this option instead of placing your messenger addresses in your advertisement. If you place your messenger addresses in your advertisement, and your advertisement is visible to anonymous users then it may be picked up by spammers or search engines.

Your pictures

You can upload two pictures to the site.

Your Advertisement

You'll need to specify a title for your advertisement along with what genders of people your interested in meeting, along with your species and relationship status.

Now your ready to enter some text for your advertisement. We will recognize common html tags such as i,ul,li,p,u, and will expand any links that appear to be images to show the image you have linked to.

Viewing ads

You can to the ads through a couple of different options:

  • Recent ads - See the most recently modified ads
  • Browse ads - Browse the ads by various categories
  • Search ads - Search the ads using either basic or advanced keywords
  • View the ads on a map - View the ads using on a map.

Responding to ads

Once you have found an advertisement that you want to respond to you can click the 'respond to ad' link at the bottom of the page. This will show a form where you can type a message to send to the user your interested in contacting.

This pretty much just emails the user your message along with a link to your advertisement if you have one.

How in the HELL am I supposed to make heads or tails
of this?! I cannot narrow this down even WITH those
over-elaborate-get-you-nowhere-fast filters!!! That
'help box' is a fat lotta help when there is no way to
sort this out in ANY possible manner that doesn't get
the person who searches really cheesed off! Yes... I
am very upset. How can I find a mate when there so
MANY roadblocks that takes you OUT before you can get
even STARTED to finding the mate of one's choice?

Might as well add a comment since there hasn't been one in over a year. So. Here it is. o/

My question is, you have a link at the bottom of every ad, that says "Respond To This Ad" now, I've hit this before and responded to a few, how on earth do you tell if you have a response? because I even tried sending myself a response to my own add to see if there was a way I could see my responses, if any new link popped up saying that I have a response/pm or anything of the sort, and I have yet to find such, how am I supposed to know if anyone is sending me anything, if I don't know where to look? I hate making people feel ignored, and if someone did happen to send me a response, I'd like to be able to respond back to them or know who it is, so they don't feel like im ignoring them. -.=.-

Also, a better help or layout guide would be nice, to include all the features of the site, and how to use, and check them.

I noticed the same issue Hitarou1Okensu. Since no help has been offered with this issue I'm going to add to my ad that anyone wishing to respond should reply by email, and that "Respond To This Ad" is apparently dead.

found out how, quite a while ago, thanks to onna my friends -.=.- when you click "Respond To This Ad" it sends the response to the email that that ad is linked to, and then they can either respond to your response by email or again responding to your ad which will be sent to your email. btw thanks alot admin for trying to help us with this *has extreme sarcasm in his voice* -.=.- would be nice if you guys at least put that information somewhere so newcommers will know.

Jesus christ that sucks. I've responded to a couple of males and sadly no response.. Luckily I had their IM because this freaking sucks that you can't message someone. There should be some kind of mail box at least. *scratches her head* Well whatever I guess IM's and e-mail will have to do.

The site's very badly coded but I haven't had any major problems.

Maybe people would get responses if... they were what someone was looking for? There ARE people browsing these sites, and they have wants too.

Don't be passive either. Look for others yourself.

Then again if "love is dead" and "fuck you all furs" is your attitude... is it any big wonder there's no activity for you?

Can I make a request?

Could you maybe include a function that keeps track of profiles you've responded to? Once in awhile I'll get an e-mail from someone I've responded to via the website, and then he e-mails me, and I can't remember who he is! Talk about embarassing, hehe.

Tracking would be really neat.:)

KittenKun  2009-05-09 02:22:44
I've thought of a very good idea to remember who the person we talk to are! You know when you go to your inbox where it shows the name and then the ad? Well why can't the name be clickable as well so we can go back to the ad that we found him / her from????

pierricbross  2009-06-16 03:09:41
I agree with KittenKun completely.:o

What the fuck is up with "Too many messages sent"? This is a brand new account, geez.

BANDITFALL  2010-03-12 03:05:11
its not dowing what its supost to do i cant see it with out loging in.
Making your profile public, makes it easier for people to find you and your ad. x in box nuthing fix it plesssssss.

Donowolf  2010-05-27 06:30:34
Using Firefox 3.6.3 prevents the "respond to ad" button from showing. Using Internet Explorer 7 on the same ad will show it, however, and allow you to reply if they don't have IM info listed. Just thought I'd point this out.

Felidire  2010-07-16 02:38:49
It would be pretty cool if you could use a filter on the "Map" page. At least it would make searching a little more interactive, I dunno.. XD

SleepingForest  2010-07-24 04:51:11
I keep getting a red text that says "youve sent too many messages" or something along thoses lines, and wont send my message, even after i typed in the code right when replying to mail. I just dont get this?? not fare!
