I just found this video of a small news part about a supriseing quote and what happend after it, but I have a question for you all...

Please watch this first http://tinyurl.com/26syf63 <----

Now AFTER you watched that video...heres my question

Do you think China will ever be a free country and not a communist country?
It seems odd to me that they are going back and forth with this censoring business.
What are your thoughts on this matter?

MrFloofy

I do not think so. Until the people stand up or start a bloody revolution against its own government and bourgeoisie, nothing will change. How do you think commoners got their rights in France? They revolted and began the French Revolution. It was violent, it was bloody, and many people died, commoners and rich people with power, but it was necessary to get things changed.

They say history tends to repeat itself. A society begins. It is prosperous at first. Law of the land is established. Shit happens. People panic. Out of panic, people give away more and more of their own rights in exchange for extra protection from the government (look up the Patriot Act established by George W. Bush after 9/11). Eventually the government becomes too powerful and totalitarian. People get outraged and protest. People are shut down. People get fed up and begin a bloody massacre in an attempt to destroy and rebuild the government. Government loses.  Government is reformed.

This may be the fate that awaits China in a desperate attempt for people to get the freedom of speech they desire.

Problem is when people do speak up they are arrested, heck one man spoke out and was chained up to a post for 5 years until his arms and skin starting to 'grow around' the chains :/

When he was released they had to then figure a way into getting the chains off without cutting off his hands.

Fact of the matter is, China doesn't take this stuff lightly press blackouts and Chinese good are one thing, but other then that its life time in prison or death =/ Chinese military is a strong force also any rebels would stand no chance against tanks and such. I just cant see it happening lightly....or the people winning.

Also its more then freedom of speech its freedom of press and INFORMATION, they paid google to give them a Chinese google which things like "fair labor" and freedom of speech and other sites are blocked from the people's eyes

That's why I said that if the citizens of China want to change things, they better be willing to risk their own lives for it. Hundreds, thousands, maybe even millions will die before the government listens and reforms.

Are either of you old enough to remember Tiananmen Square and what happened there on 06/04/1989?

No, Conker and I were both born in the 90s.

The point I was trying to make is that the Chinese people did make an attempt to stand up to their government to demand democratic reforms in 1989.  Tens of thousands of people, many of them college students, gathered in Tiananmen Square for a demonstration (I was tempted to say "peaceful" but I don't recall how peaceful it actually was, though I'm pretty sure it's not what you'd characterize as a riot).  The Chinese government's response was to bring in the military to crush the rebellion.  There are no official figures on how many protesters were killed, but some estimates place the figure in the thousands.  There were many arrests, with some of the leaders receiving long prison sentences and in some cases execution.  A government memorial for the soldiers and policemen killed (who numbered no more than 50) made no mention of the much higher body count among the protesters.  To this day, in defiance of the position of most of the rest of the world, the Chinese government stands by its response to the protests, and within China, coverage of these events in news and historical texts is heavily censored and must be consistent with the official Chinese government's position.  It also remains one of the hot topics in Internet censorship and monitoring.

It might be noted that this was in the same time period as the fall
of the Berlin Wall and the breakup of the Soviet Union, if that gives
you any perspective on the worldwide political atmosphere at the time.

Maybe the only way it will change is if there is an uprising from the Chinese people, but China has a large enough army to suppress a protest that's a hundred or a thousand times larger than Tiananmen Square, and they've already demonstrated that they won't hesitate to do just that.

Yeah I knew that already, China has one big military system.

Found some videos of this event if anyone wants to see, by the way it talks of the mysterious TANK MAN.

It's a sad day in Hell when the military that's supposed to protect you and defend you turns against you.

There Communists, enough said. It's think this way or i'll shoot you.

Also Chinese Military isn't supposed to protect the people, only the leader, the people can be the cannon feed for all they care :/

Fluffyboy

The chinese ruling class has always been nothing but savages and murderers and the country will not change until the day the people say enough is enough and rebel.

A famous philosopher once said that whenever a leader ceases to fulfill his role (such as not satisfying the welfare of his civilians) it will eventually fall, coincidentally this was a chinese philosopher a few thousand years ago to end the preceding system of government in china.  If only the middle east listened to Confucius. It is not communism that is bad, it is the leader that abuses their power, and this can happen in any system
